Charles Carmichael
Family Pastor
Wilmington, NC
Charles has spent the last twelve years in family and discipleship ministry, most recently as Family Pastor at a multi-site congregation of around 800. He's built out a volunteer-led small groups system from the ground up, grown it from four groups to over thirty, and mentored three of those original volunteer leaders into staff roles. He still teaches a weekly parenting class himself, not because no one else could, but because, in his words, "the class is where I actually hear what families are dealing with, and I'd rather know than guess." He's drawn to churches that treat discipleship as a whole-family project instead of a kids'-ministry checkbox, and he's looking for a role where he can build long-term relationships with families, not just run programs for them. Outside the office, he coaches his son's rec-league soccer team badly but enthusiastically, and he and his wife have a running argument about whether their dog is spoiled. He says no. She says obviously.
Theological Alignment
Evangelical, broadly Reformed in conviction without being doctrinaire about it. Comfortable in non-denominational and mainline evangelical settings alike. Holds to the authority of Scripture and the core convictions of the historic Christian faith, and tries to hold those firmly while giving real grace on secondary issues, the same posture he wants his own kids' ministry volunteers to have with families who are still working things out.
Ministry Philosophy
Charles believes discipleship happens in homes far more than it happens on a stage. His ministry is built around equipping parents rather than replacing them, and around volunteer leaders who stay long enough to actually know the families in their group, not just run a curriculum at them.
Why I'm Exploring New Opportunities
I am seeking continued growth and development of my leadership skills as I serve within a new ministry context.
