Patrick Williams

Patrick Williams has spent nearly two decades in ministry, in roles that don't fit neatly into one job description: part shepherd, part builder. He currently serves as Executive Pastor of a multi-thousand-attendance church in Tampa, Florida. Under his leadership, the church has grown its overall generosity from $3 million to $6 million, walked through a $14 million building expansion, and built a staff formation system that includes leadership development, theology training, and mandatory mental health care for every team member. He also preaches regularly, serving as the primary backup communicator for the church's highest-attendance weekends. To Patrick, those two things aren't in tension. Good operations exist to protect good ministry, not replace it. His path started in student ministry, then moved through operations and executive roles at churches of different sizes and traditions, including a season co-founding a nonprofit that consulted with churches on finance, staffing, and strategy. What's carried through every stop is the same conviction: healthy organizations make room for healthy people, and neither one happens by accident. Patrick and his wife, Melody, are full partners in ministry, not just in title. They have two kids, Sienna (15) and Oliver (11), and when he's not at the church, you'll usually find him hunting down a used copy of some NES or Sega Genesis game he had as a kid. He leads from the conviction that the metrics matter, and so do the people behind them.

Theological Alignment

Patrick's theological home is broad in the right ways and firm in the right ways. He holds to the core convictions of the Christian faith without adding a long list of secondary issues to fight over. The line he keeps coming back to, borrowed from Augustine, is simple: in essentials, unity; in doubtful matters, liberty; in all things, charity. That conviction shapes where he fits. He's spent his career in non-denominational, Restoration Movement, Baptist, and Wesleyan contexts, and he's comfortable across a range of governance models, elder-led, congregational, or staff-led, because healthy leadership has always mattered more to him than the org chart it sits inside. At the center of it is a simple belief: the local church is God's chosen vehicle for restoring people to Him. That's not a talking point. It's the reason he's stayed in this work for the better part of twenty-five years.

Ministry Philosophy

Patrick leads with a mix of strategy and collaboration, more coach than commander. He sets goals with the people he leads, personal ones and professional ones, and works alongside them to reach those goals rather than just assigning tasks and checking back later. When he's building a team, he's looking for three things, in this order: character, chemistry, and competency. Competency can be taught. Character and chemistry can't. One test he uses is simple: would the rest of the team actually want to spend time with this person? If the answer's no, the resume doesn't matter much. His view of ministry outside his own walls has shifted, too. Early on, it was easy to see other churches as competition for the same people and resources. He doesn't see it that way anymore. He thinks of them as allies working toward the same mission, and he pushes his own staff to drop the competitive mindset and do the same. He'll also tell you where he still has room to grow: leaning on his own strengths instead of leaning on the Holy Spirit. It shows up in how he builds teams, too. He'd rather develop people who are stronger than him in the places he's weak.

Why I'm Exploring New Opportunities

Patrick isn't leaving out of frustration. He loves the church he currently serves, its heart for reaching people far from God, and what they've built together. But over the past several months, he and his wife Melody have both sensed a shift, a call toward something next rather than a push away from something behind them. What he's looking for isn't complicated: a church and a leadership team where he can come alongside a vision God has already given them, and help build the systems, staff, and culture that let that vision actually take hold. He's spent his whole career doing exactly that, in different rooms, for different churches, at different sizes. He's ready to do it again, somewhere new.
